The National Photographic Portrait Prize is an annual event intended to promote the very best in contemporary photographic portraiture by both professional and aspiring Australian photographers.
The winner for 2019 is Alana Holmberg for her portrait Greta In Her Kitchen, 36 weeks. The highly commended award was won by Alex Vaughan for Sumbawa Pride – Life on a Boat With Eleven Kids. Thanks to our wonderful sponsors the winners of the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2019 will take home $30,000 cash and a swag of prizes.
People’s Choice Award went to Kate Atkinson for her portrait The textiles scientist.
The exhibition of 39 portraits will be on display at the National Portrait Gallery from Saturday 23 February until Sunday 7 April 2019. The exhibition will also tour to a range of venues around Australia.
