This year is our 10th anniversary of hosting the National Photographic Portrait Prize, so it’s extra special!

First prize

A cash prize of $25,000 goes to the winner of the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017! Thanks to our friends at Profoto, the winner will also receive a Profoto B1 location lighting kit worth $6,000. The winner is Gary Grealy for his portrait of Richard Morecroft and Alison Mackay.

Highly commended

Judges also select a portrait to win the highly commended photographic portrait prize of an Eizo screen valued at $4,000. This year the judges selected two works to receive highly commended awards; John Benavente for Renaissance Rose and Brett Canet-Gibson for Mastura.

Art handler’s award

Our resident art handling duo, Tara and Amelia, have announced the winner of the Art handlers’ Award for 2017! The artist of their favourite work, Tobias Titz, wins $2000 and return freight for his portrait of Bobby Bunungurr, thanks to our friends at IAS fine art logistics.
